His music results from his experiences with underground New York rock bands and his studies with Martin Bresnick in Yale. Pionneers of innovation in rock and international pop music they unfurl their sombre lullabies. This piece has been arranged for the Kronos Quartet by Stephen Prutsman, composer, jazz and classical pianist whose compositions are played all over the world. 03 Getatchew Mekurya (arr S. Prutsman) : Aha gedawa 6.26 Arranged for the Kronos Quartet Getatchew Mekurya is probably the most respected Ethiopian saxophone player, a giant either musically or physically. He is as well at the top of the saxophone world as the inventor of a very special musical style. 04 Alexandra du Bois : Oculus pro oculo totum orbem terrae caecat 18.55 Written for the Kronos Quartet An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind Born in 1981, Alexandra du Bois started playing violin at the age of 2 and composed her first piece at 15. This one was played for the first time at the Dartmouth College' Hopskins Center in 2003, and played many time since in various places like Le Théatre de la Ville in Paris or at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. Disc 2 : 01 Clint Mansell (arr David Lang) : Requiem for a Dream Suite 11.17 Arranged for the Kronos Quartet The music of the now mythical Darren Aronofsky film was composed by Clint Mansell, the founding leader of the english band Pop will eat itself. The film, which takes place in Coney Island's streets in Brooklyn is e deep dive in the psyche of 4 characters. Their drug : their own vision of an happier life. 02 Franghiz Ali-Zadeh : Oasis 13.15 Written for the Kronos Quartet Ali-Zadeh studied music in Baku, where she graduated piano and composition classes. She uses avant-garde composition techniques combined with traditional Azerbaidjan music. 03 Steve Reich : Triple Quartet 17.44 Written for the Kronos Quartet Steve Reich is internationnally renowned as one of the best alive composers. Triple Quartet, written for 3 quartets, is dedicated to the Kronos Quartet. On stage, quartets #2 and #3 having been previously recorded, the Kronos Quartet performs #1.
