Having caught on to the power and fury of the 1980's Crimso a bit too late, we missed out on the live experience, having come oh so close at the Boston Orpheum in 1984. Thwarted by high priced tickets and the confusion of a Shriner's parade, we decided to wait until "next time." Fast forward to 11 years later. We hit the road loaded for bear: taping gear, lots of blanks and great high spirits. The first show of the tour in Buffalo was fabulous. We had a rough idea of what to expect from the album, but when the moment of truth came, what a trip. Fripp was hiding in the back, shrouded in shadows, while the other five musicians raged around him like a pack of wild hounds barely contained by their leashes. Looking at Robert, all I could think of was the 1977 Peter Gabriel tour, so I leaned over and whispered "Dusty Rhodes" in Carl's ear. Two songs later, someone yelled out "Dusty Rhodes" at the top of their lungs.....I could see we were among friends. We chose not to record in Buffalo. We did not have great seats, but more importantly, we did not want to tarnish our first Crimso show with the distraction of taping. We also were not willing to risk the potential penalty of ejection should we be caught in the act. Floating on a cloud, we crossed the border into Canada the next day to see if the dream was real, and if so, begin taping. Massey Hall is a gorgeous old theatre, loaded with history. Of all the venues I saw KC in on this tour, this one was extremely special, not only for the show, but for the fabulous time we had in Toronto. Great food, great beer, fabulous people and the dream that finally came true. It is with great pleasure that I present for your enjoyment the first of four shows we recorded on that tour. Hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
